Huntington Hoops Web Site Ending . . . Updates to the Huntington Hoops web site will be discontinued at the end of the 2019-2020 season. The site will remain on-line for reference purposes, but changes and additions to the site will no longer be made. At the time this web site started in 2003, it provided information not available from other internet sources. In subsequent years, the development of packet switching, data processing, cell phones, and memory storage systems, enabled by 3G and 4G (and soon to be 5G) transmission services, have allowed web sites to provide a wealth of information. As a result, material once available only on this site with the use of a computer browser has become available from many on-line sources and accessed more conveniently with hand-held devices. Significant developments since the start of this web site include a new Huntington Athletics web site (huathletics.com) introduced last year, which provides up-to-date rosters, schedules, and news about HU teams, players, games, and coaches. Earlier, in 2012, the MCC Conference was transformed into the Crossroads League, which has subsequently developed a robust web site covering news for all CL teams (crossroadsleague.com). In addition, since the Huntington Hoops site was introduced in 2003, social media sites* have come into existence. These sites provide current information and enable fan interaction. None of these developments existed when this web site was launched in 2003. In addition to the new and comprehensive Huntington University and Crossroads League web sites, the Dakstats site provides complete statistical information for all conferences, teams, and players in the NAIA. Dakstats supplements the NAIA web site, which has been greatly expanded to include news, records, coach and school information, schedules, and results for all NAIA teams. The NAIA also conducts polls and provides rankings of the top NAIA teams. (See the right column of Hoops Front Page for links to the Crossroads, Dakstats, and NAIA web sites.) In short, after 16 years, this web site has outlived its initial intentions and original purpose. It's become redundant in the world of on-line resources available today. It's been fun to do, but the effort will end in March 2020. * Facebook began in 2004, Twitter began in 2006, Instagram and Pinterest both began in 2010. |
