  Derek Hinen returns for the 2015-16 season as a junior.  Hinen has proved himself, being selected for the Crossroads League All-Newcomers Team as a freshman and being named to the All-League Second Team last season.  He led the team in scoring (17.0 a game) and assists (5.2 a game).  For the season, Derek shot 46.9% from the field and 44.8% from long range.

Derek graduated from Columbia City High School where he scored 1,099 career points to become the #3 scorer in CCHS history (a history that includes Doug Sheckler, the Shively brothers, and the Moore brothers).  Hinen has good size and gets to the basket quickly off the dribble.  The 2013 Indiana Recruiting Guide rated Derek #13 of all shooting guards.

  Derek Hinen After earning Honorable Mention All-Conference honors as a CCHS freshman, he earned his third consecutive All-NHC First Team selection as a senior.  He also earned Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Senior Honorable Mention in 2013, after receiving All-State Underclassmen Honorable Mention the previous two years.  In addition, he was SportONE Boys Basketball Player of the Week in February, 2013.

Hinen was named to Hoosier Basketball's Top 100 Senior Boys and was in the top 75 of the Rick Bolus Recruiting list.  Besides basketball, Hinen was also the #1 singles tennis player for CCHS, finishing just one match away from the State Finals in 2012.  He also made the CCHS Senior Honors list.
