Huntington: Hall of Fame Tournament Champions
The Huntington University Hall of Fame Tournament Brought Together Some Pretty Good Teams
Unlike some years, Huntington had tough competition at the 2007-08 Hall of Fame Tournament game.  The event included an NCCAA school and an NAIA D1 school in addition to another NAIA D2 school (as is Huntington).

All four schools had winning records this past season.  Madonna University (MI), from the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (NAIA D2) finished 19-13; Kuyper College (MI), a member of the NCCAA Midwest Region, finished 17-14; and Campbellsville University (KY), of the Mid-South Conference (NAIA D1), had a 22-8 record.

Both Madonna and Campbellsville finished third in their respective conferences.  Campbellsville was ranked #11 (NAIA D1) when they came to Huntington and Madonna received votes in the NAIA D2 Coaches polls during the season.  Kuyper was ranked #9 in their NCCAA Division.

Campbellsville opened the tournament with a 78-63 win over Madonna in the first game.  Huntington followed with a 117-75 blow-out of Kuyper.  That was the highest scoring game of the season for HU.  Huntington jumped out to a quick lead which grew to a 59-34 score at the break.  They led by as many as 46 points in the second half.  Everybody played and everybody scored.
The Championship Game the next evening was a bit more competitive.  Huntington fell behind by 4 at the outset, but came back to lead by 3 at the half (34-31).

Campbellsville got serious in the second half and took a 6-point lead midway through it.  Huntington came back to lead by 4, but Campbellsville tied it up before regulation time ran out.  We had overtime.

Huntington controlled the overtime period from start to finish and came away with an 86-79 win for the 2007 Hall of Fame Tournament Championship.

Huntington shot 45.3% from the field in the game and connected on 40.0% (8 of 20) from three point range.  The Foresters were 93.3% (20 of 22) at the line which off-set the 10 three-pointers and the 5 rebound margin of the Tigers.  Huntington had 19 assists in the game.

Doug Sheckler led the Foresters with 22 points, 7 assists and 13 rebounds; Kevin Kyle had 15 points and 5 rebounds; Tyler Shively had 16 points; Kyle Benge had 12 points, Kellen Zawadzki had 11 points; Andrew Mock had 6 points and 5 assists; Luke Smith had 4 points.

Doug Sheckler was named Hall of Fame Tournament MVP.
