Since graduating from East Noble High School, freshman Kyle Johnson spent most of his summer working at Shepherd's GMC in Kendallville, and participated in as many open gyms as possible.

Meanwhile, his family experienced change as they are in the process of moving from Kendallville to Greenwood where Kyle's dad will be the new head coach for boys at Whiteland Community High School. As a result of the move, Kyle spent much of the summer with his grandmother while working at the GMC dealership.

Kyle's sister, who is in the eighth grade, is adjusting to her new school at Whiteland. She follows the family's athletic tradition by being in volleyball, basketball, softball, and track. Kyle's mom also hopes to join the staff of Whiteland, and his grandmother is planning on making the move down to Greenwood with the rest of the family.

Kyle first learned about Huntington from Coach Ty Platt when Ty was coaching High School. He already knew several of the players and they made him feel a part of the team right away. Kyle says he is really looking forward to his college debut. "I am really excited about the new basketball season," he says. "I know we'll do well."

Freshman Kevin Kyle had a busy summer. He worked the HU basketball camp for two weeks and then went off to the wilderness for a week with his dad and some friends to Minnesota's Boundary Waters for fishing, camping, and canoeing.

To prepare for the transition to college basketball, he lifted weights, worked on his shooting, and played against high school teammates whenever he could do so. He also played in the Dave Sanders Memorial All-Star Basketball Game.

Kevin enjoyed the summer with his family, which includes older brother, Kris, who is majoring in psychology at Ball State and sister, Kelly, who is in the eighth grade. Kelly, another Kyle athlete, plays volleyball, basketball, tennis, and softball. Kevin's dad

is a middle school teacher; Kevin's mother is a homemaker.

Kevin also spent time with his extended family, taking a week long cruise to Hawaii with his grandparents and his uncle's family of four. They saw the Volcanoes National Park, learned to surf, did some snorkeling and also experienced Hawaii's Pearl Harbor Memorial. When Kyle wasn't busy traveling or playing basketball, he was roofing houses and mowing.

Kevin is really excited about the coming basketball season. He knows this is a team capable of accomplishing great things. So far, he has enjoyed his early weeks at Huntington University, although he says he gets way too much homework.

After graduating from Tippecanoe Valley High School, David spent his summer working on the family farm and completing his tenth year in 4-H competition. He spent a week at the County and State fairs showing pigs.

David also worked a couple of weeks at the Forester basketball camp. Other than that, his time was devoted to normal chores on the farm and hanging out with his friends.

David says he didn't really know very much about HU or people who attended there, except for a student or two from his High School. Once he visited the campus, he realized how good the fit would be and he liked what he learned about the coaches and the players, too.

David's dad, John, is a farmer and his mother, Darlene, does the farm books and helps outside with some of the chores as well. David says he feels very fortunate to have a great Christian family.

He has two sisters. Laura, who is now a junior at Anderson University, is majoring in nursing. She also runs cross country and participates in track at Anderson. Sarah, a younger sister, is a junior at Tippecanoe Valley High School.

Despite the closeness in their ages, David says there is no sibling rivalry, "They're all very supportive of me."
