JARED YODER - Senior

After a very busy junior year, Jared had a very relaxing summer for the first time in a few years.  "I pretty much just did odd jobs at the farm and for others throughout the summer months," he explains.

Aside from that, Jared enjoyed sleeping in and working out – except in August, when he did an internship at Spiece Fieldhouse in Fort Wayne.  During that time he lived with his older brother, Derek.

Derek and his wife, Amy, have just finished grad school at IU and now live in Roanoke.  Derek works in Huntington at the Bowmen Center, while Amy is a speech therapist for the Huntington School District.

The rest of his family is also doing great.  Jared reports his dad, Roger, sold their cows.  Also, his mom, Jolene, got a new job at Westview High School.  Jared's youngest brother, Justin, is now a junior at Westview High School playing tennis and basketball.

According to Jared the biggest family news is that "Justin has an official girlfriend for the first time!"  Justin is also doing very well on the Westview High basketball team, so we will wait and see if he follows the Yoder family basketball tradition at HU.

Like his teammates, Jared anticipates a very successful basketball season.  He says he is looking forward to making a trip back to Branson next March – with continued success and an entirely different outcome.

DOUG SHECKLER - Junior

Doug spent his summer with his family in Columbia City, while working the third shift in a steel factory to earn some cash.

Even though the work took up most of his time at rather inconvenient hours, he still managed to get to the gym to work out regularly and to play some recreational basketball in Columbia City and at the Harlan Days basketball tournament.

While last season was highly successful and the casual observer might expect little room for improvement, Doug sees more potential than ever for this team.  He expects them to build on last year's success, work harder than ever and become a better team.

Even though Doug is the only junior on the team, he doesn't see that as being of any disadvantage.  "I don't feel alone even though I'm the only one in my class.  We work as a team and that is how we win.

Consequently, he's optimistic about the potential, "We have a lot of experienced players coming back, and the new additions to the team are very skilled," he says.

Doug anticipates another great basketball season.  "We know how to succeed," he says of his team.  "We know what it takes to get wins and we are all preparing as best we can to do that.  We've been working on it since last March."

KYLE BENGE - Sophomore

Kyle Benge returns for his second season with the Foresters and his sophomore year of college.  Kyle was an important part of the basketball team's arsenal as a freshman last year and will certainly be an important part of it again this season.

Kyle spent the summer months with friends and family in the Plymouth area.  Kyle has a younger sister, Chelsea, now in the ninth grade and an older sister, Karen, who is a graduate of the Navel Academy.

His mom and dad are involved in education, which may explain Kyle's plans for teaching.  Kyle's mother is a high school history teacher at Triton; his dad is the Athletic Director at Plymouth.

Kyle enjoyed his first year of being an HU student, as well as being part of the team's success last season.  He anticipates another great year as this team prepares for what has become their annual trip to Branson.

He knows it's going to take hard work, as do the rest of his teammates, and they will all learn just how hard that work can be when conditioning gets underway.

Kyle looks forward to helping the freshmen players adapt quickly and become part of the team.  In fact, he has Neil Stoffel as a roommate and he's already impressed with Neil's ability to concentrate.  It seems Neil can actually do his homework while Kyle is watching football games.
