LUKE SMITH (6'4, 175)

After weighing several options, Luke Smith chose Huntington University.  In his senior year at Rochester HS (2A), Luke averaged 22 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals a game for the Zebras, shooting 51% from the field, 45% beyond the arc, and 79% at the free throw line.  Smith not only led the Zebras in scoring and assists; he also led them in rebounding and steals.

Smith was both the scoring leader and the three-point field goal percentage leader in the Three Rivers Conference last year.  He scored over 30 points in two games and more than 20 points in 15 games, leading Rochester to the Elite Eight.

At the IHSAA level, Luke was #14 in the entire State in scoring with 506 points, and was #12 in assists with 111 on the season.  He broke the RHS career scoring record in the Sectional Championship win over North Newton and went on to end the season with 1,166 career points.

Luke was voted MVP by his teammates the past two seasons, was named First Team All-Conference the past two years, and was the MVP of the 2006 Holiday Tournament.

Smith was also an Indiana Junior All-Star selection, was named to the All-Sectional team three years running and was named to the Indiana Elite AAU Team.  He played in the North-South Indiana All-Star Classic for the North Team, and was invited to the Top 40 Workout in Indianapolis.

Luke received High Honorable Mention in All-State voting and Honorable Mention in Indiana Basketball Coaches voting.  He was ranked #36 in Indiana by the Rick Bolus Recruiting Service, was named to the Second Team of Hoosier Hoops Report and the Hoosier Basketball Magazine Top 100.

Luke was also a top swimmer for Club Rochester and golfed at Rochester HS for two seasons. As if all of that weren’t enough, he’s a member of the National Honor Society and was named to the Academic All-Conference teams in 2005 and 2006. Luke plans to major in business digital media arts at Huntington University.

NEIL STOFFEL (6'6, 190)

Neil Stoffel will be playing basketball in Huntington again next year; same town, different school.  Neil is a graduate of Huntington North HS, where he was a three-year starter for a very good team.

Stoffel was co-captain his senior year and averaged over 12 points and 6 rebounds a game, while shooting 65% from the field and 70% at the line.  He was named North Central Conference Student-Athlete of the Week twice last year and again in January, after scoring 24 points and pulling in 6 rebounds in the Vikings’ win over 4A State finalist Muncie Central.

Neil helped the Vikings to an impressive 18-3 record overall and 5-2 in the NCC, with a Conference scoring margin of +12.0 points a game.  He scored 20 points or more in three games last season, had 10 rebounds versus Anderson, and 4 steals versus Northfield.  His 2005-06 season totals included 259 points, 131 rebounds, 13 assists, 8 steals and 4 blocks.

In the tough North Central Conference (with six other 4A schools), Neil was #1 in field goal percentage, #3 in offensive rebounds, #5 in total rebounds, and #8 in defensive rebounds.  He also ranked #9 in free throw attempts with over 4 a game.  Further, Stoffel's 65% field goal percentage put him #11 in the entire IHSAA, where he also ranked #37 in offensive rebounds.  In post season voting, he received All-Northeast Indiana Honorable Mention.

Neil was also an Honor Roll student at Huntington North and ran cross-country for two years.  He plans to major in business at Huntington University.

AN OUTSTANDING GROUP

It’s easy to be impressed with these great basketball credentials, but don’t overlook the academic achievement, self-discipline, and outstanding character they show.

All five are High School Honor Roll students and they’ve earned scholarships by their work in the classroom as well as on the basketball court.
