Senior Chase Verba

I asked Chase about his achievements at Huntington and his response was not about earning a degree or becoming 25th in all-time scoring.  It was about spiritual growth.  “I have grown spiritually more in the last four years than in the previous eighteen years of my life,” he said.

Chase has always been a person who values family, and with many of his relatives attending basketball games it’s understandable that he would attribute his success as a basketball player, as well as a person, to his great family and their support.

Chase says that he has been blessed to have a mom and dad, plus a step-mom and a step-dad.  I can attest to that; getting to know Chase’s family in Branson this year definitely explained a lot as to why he is such a great individual.

OFF INTO THE FUTURE

Obviously, Chase has a very bright future ahead of him and he wants to pursue a job in marketing but we don’t count out his involvement in sports and he admits to an interest in coaching someday.  His parents all spoke about how well he works with kids and how much he really enjoys working at the HU basketball camps.

I asked his dad what Chase would do with all his time now that his basketball career has come to an end.  Chuck said, “We have eighteen years of fishing and hunting to make up.”  Chase loves to fish and he may be found on a nearby lake on any given free day.

Chase’s growth at Huntington spiritually, personally, and academically is immeasurable.  He’s a classy gentleman on and off the floor, and that’s how we will remember Chase Verba; the Class of 2006.

Senior Steve Snider

Business. He has developed into a mature, well-rounded individual with a strong work ethic and leadership skills that are second to none.

While Steve will walk away with all of this, there is something even more valuable to him.  In all of his years playing basketball, he says he has never been on a team as close as this one.  Each of the players trusts one another and Steve says that he had never experienced this closeness and camaraderie with any other team.

As a result of this closeness, Steve will also take away from college what he treasures most: his friendships and his memories of a great four years.

THANKS TO THE SENIORS

As we say goodbye to both Steve and Chase on the court, we know they will be sorely missed.  One can always find tall guys to join the basketball team, but the character and leadership that Steve and Chase have provided cannot be easily duplicated.

With four NAIA National Tournament appearances, a National Runner-Up title, two MCC conference titles, one tie, one second, and 108 wins in four years, Steve and Chase are going out on top.

On a personal note, I’m honored to know these exemplary seniors, and having two brothers on the team I know first-hand the impact they’ve had on their teammates.  You can’t find two better role models and I’m sure the entire Huntington community joins me in wishing them the best of luck and many blessings.

On behalf of the families, friends, and fans, we thank you both for everything.
