Coach Steve Platt: "The He-Man of Huntington"
Two Recent Foresters Think It's Time Coach Platt Got Some Well-Deserved Recognition

A TRADITION CONTINUES

When talking about sports, John Wooden put Westwood on the map; Michael Jordan and Chapel Hill go hand-in-hand; and Bobby Knight and Indiana are still synonymous in most people’s minds.

And now, after 12 seasons as Head Coach of the Foresters, you can’t say Huntington University without thinking of Steve Platt.

THE CHANGE IN ROLES

Coach Platt continues a tradition started in 1994 when he began coaching – a tradition of winning and developing young men into role models, outstanding individuals and, yes, even great basketball players.

SUCCESSFUL COACHING STYLE

Concluding one of the most successful seasons in the history of Huntington basketball, Coach Platt has compiled 278 wins against 128 losses, a .685 win ratio.

Coach Platt
What he has done is remarkable and genius.  Does that mean he is a genius?  Well, that will be for you to decide, but the work he has done is genius.

He takes individuals of different backgrounds and varying personalities and molds them into a unit, a
family – a team.  He has found ways to shape players’ minds so they accept his concept of coaching – a concept that has proven to be extremely successful.

IMPACT ON THE MCC

Coach Platt has had an impact on the entire Mid-Central College Conference.  Through his efforts, Huntington University is now one of the most respected teams in the MCC and one of the most successful small-college programs in the entire country.

THE NEW HU NATION

Furthermore, Coach Platt has affected the at large Huntington University community – the students, the alumni and other people associated with the school.

He has created a tradition of which people want to become a part, and an atmosphere in which people wish to be surrounded; he has built a greater HU community.

Coach Platt has given back to his alma mater in a way not many people can.  He has created a new HU Nation!

CHARACTER COUNTS

Lastly, and most importantly, Coach is respected as a man of honor and integrity.  He's a man of his word.  He has raised a family second to none and has developed friendships with many.

MORE TO COME

We’ve only touched on the surface here but an in-depth article on Coach Platt is coming soon with interviews from MCC coaches, players, alums, faculty, friends and family.  It will prove why Coach Steve Platt really is “The He-Man of Huntington!”
