JARED YODER - Junior

Welcome back, Jared.  Junior year!  Man, can you believe it?  Jared comes back bulked up from a summer spent working to improve his game.  He also worked for the Shipshewana Auction group this summer, plus picking up another class or two towards his degree.

Hopefully, everyone will indulge me as I share a story about Jared.  I called him while he was vacationing at South Padre Island over Spring Break.  He told me he’d misplaced his wallet.  I could only tell him to go back through the condo; look very carefully and try to find it.  Fortunately, when I talked to him the next day, he had found it; in his shoe of all places!

I told him I was glad he found it because I was thinking his dad and I would need to drive down over Easter to get him.  His response was, "Oh, that wouldn’t be good."

When I relayed the story to his mom she said that Jared had come to rely on me quite a bit over the year.  That means a lot to me; having the opportunity to spend time with people like Jared is reason enough to support the Forester program.

We all look forward to watching as you continue to grow as a player and, more importantly, as an individual over the course of the coming year.

DOUG SHECKLER - Sophomore

This past summer, Doug worked some basketball camps, took a couple trips, and spent time with his girlfriend Amy.

The first trip was a sunny Caribbean cruise with his family.  Then, he had to spend a week with ten friends in Myrtle Beach, SC.  I’d say that sounds like a tough summer.

Truth be told, we are happy that you had the chance to enjoy the summer.  After the blows to the head you took last season, I figure that you deserve all the R & R you can get.  As if two broken noses last year weren’t enough, he got break #3 in a pick up game this summer in Columbia City.

His nose is rather crooked now, but he’s holding off surgery until he graduates.  No point is fixing up what will likely get broke

again.  Doug rarely leaves anything on the table when he plays -- which is one of the reasons he is such an exciting player.

Coming off a successful freshman year and making it through the rigorous conditioning program, Doug is anxious to kick off the season and play some more basketball.  He strongly believes the Foresters have something to prove and he’s ready to take it to our opponents this season.

Given the schedule, Doug, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to step up and play some good basketball.  We all look forward to supporting you and all the Foresters this season.

TODD DALE - Sophomore

Todd is a junior at Huntington academically but a sophomore for basketball eligibility.  He graduated from Southwood High School, but attended Manchester High School until he moved to his dad’s farm in Wabash for his senior year.

Todd played on not one, but two State Championship baseball teams, and that’s the primary reason he came to Huntington.  Another achievement of note is his Eighth Grade County Spelling Bee Championship.

Currently, Todd is especially proud of his 52” big screen TV which he and his roommates Alex, Jared, and Seth recently installed.  Hey, there’s no explaining the importance of a really good television for young men in college.  They need it to catch all those educational documentaries they so enjoy watching.

Todd is working on a degree in Recreation Management.  He plans to use that to find a career until he gets an opportunity to take over the family farm -- if his dad lets him do it, that is.  Now I know why Todd and Coach Platt get along so well.

Todd enjoys long walks on the beach, long naps, and rolling with the pigs in the hay.  Well, Todd, we all look forward to getting to know you better this year.

KYLE BENGE - Freshman

Coming to HU from Plymouth High School, is freshman Kyle Benge.  Kyle has a sister Chelsea, who is 14 and in the eighth grade,
