Foresters Also Add Depth to the Coaching Staff
A NEW PLATT COMES TO TOWN

Join me in welcoming HU's new Associate Head Coach:
Ty Platt Ty Platt.  In case it isn't obvious, Ty is son to Head Coach Steve Platt.

Ty comes to Huntington University after a 6-year stretch as the varsity basketball Coach at Norwell.

Before Norwell High School (Ossian), Ty coached four years at Columbus East High School.  Before that he coached at Southwestern High School (Hanover, IN).

TY PLATT THE PLAYER

Ty graduated from Huntington North High School in 1988, averaging a double double (13 points, 11 rebounds) his senior year.  Naturally, colleges showed an interest and Ty found himself deciding between Grace and Taylor.  Since he had been to basketball camps at Taylor, which was an MCC powerhouse at the time (not to mention a quality Christian school), Ty decided to attend and play basketball at Taylor.

He graduated from Taylor in 1992 with a bachelor of arts degree in health and physical education.  Just to involve half the MCC, Ty later got a masters of education degree from Indiana Wesleyan University in 1997.

NO FREE PASSES FOR TAYLOR

Coach Steve Platt says he'll give Ty "a pass" on the Taylor decision, but that's because Ty met his wife Brenda while he was a student there.
Platt Family

Ty and Brenda (at right in family photo) have three children, two boys (in the foreground) and a girl (far right):  Kyle age 9; Konner age 7; Kalee age 5.

For sake of family, I think you'll agree that we can give Ty a pass for choosing Taylor.  However, that doesn't mean he should get a FREE pass.  In fact, I think we should all give him a hard time about it!

TY PLATT THE FAMILY MAN

As anyone with children knows, the kids keep you busy.  Kyle and Konner are involved in 4-H (for which recent alumnus Ryan Thwaits may have some responsibility), and
they're also involved with traveling baseball and basketball teams.

There may be a future Forester or two in the making, but after that Taylor decision, who knows?

Probably too soon to tell about that, but I do know for sure that Kyle, Konner and Ty are all looking forward to their involvement in the 2005-2006 basketball season.

Kyle Platt
Konner Platt Ty said he is especially happy to have Kyle and Konner be a part of the team (as junior managers), primarily because he knows the players at Huntington are always positive role models.

In spite of his college decision, I couldn't agree with him more.

In fact, that's something we have come to appreciate the most about
the Huntington basketball program.  Personal values are important to players and coaches alike.  These are not only great players, they're great young men.

THINGS WILL BE DIFFERENT

The new season will bring with it a couple of innovative concepts; first, there'll be more players on the roster than in recent years; second, they'll have another coach who brings with him plenty of ideas and considerable coaching experience.

The players have enjoyed Mark Green on the staff, and they're equally enthused to see Ty Platt joining as well.  The three are working together to continue the winning tradition we've all come to expect.

Some say two heads are better than one.  For the Foresters, I think we're anxious to see how much better three can be.  Given these respected men and the group of talented players they've assembled, I doubt we'll be disappointed.
