The Forester Pep Band
Sound Support for the Foresters and Entertainment for All
 Great Music for Great Fans
Though HC basketball games are always exciting, they’re a little more so when the pep band is there. This fine group of musicians has provided some great musical preludes and interludes at the games in order to help us all enjoy another fun season of Forester basketball. We definitely owe them a thank you for their involvement this season.

Sax Section (L to R): Nate Reusser, Steven Boston, and Mike Schaefer
Twelve to sixteen band members gather at one end of the bleachers and set the gym a rockin’ with some favorite songs that everyone can enjoy. With an energetic group of performers and a good mix of instruments (not to mention the occasional voices thrown in at times) they always sound bigger than life.
 The Mind of a Musician
To pay them tribute, we invited several to share their thoughts about playing in “The Forest” for basketball games and watching the Foresters this season. Here’s a glimpse into the minds of a few of them.
Senior sociology major Em Enders, a percussionist, says she appreciates the compliments given to the band from people at the games. "HC has a rich basketball program," says Enders. "I'm happy to be able to contribute somehow, even if I am a 5' 1 athletically-challenged shrimp."
She also appreciates the band's location near the edge of the bleachers, because it allows her to more easily

go down and get the occasional drumstick that finds its way to the floor underneath the bleachers.
Sophomore trumpeter Brent Watts says his favorite moment of the season was seeing Doug Sheckler leaping skyward to swat a shot in a Bethel game. Watts says he also loves making jokes and specifically notes a tendency to joke about trombones. We don’t know the message in that, but we’re sure there is one.
Freshman Beth Hale has become known for her loud whistle when she isn’t playing her instrument. She says she picked that up recently from a fellow band member. Hale also noted that she is not related to current HC students Dan and Becky Hale, who are in fact siblings, but not to her. What about Dr. Hale?
Freshman Brian Rayle plays drums though he says he never learned how. “The first game I played at HC was the first time I had played drums for any of these songs," he says. And like a good Forester fan, he says the best thing about the games is winning.
He also finds it amusing that “a bunch of non-athletic band geeks” can actually fault the mistakes that the basketball players make on the floor. That’s okay, we bet the players find musical mistakes just as amusing.

Forester Fan Fun Poll

The Best and Worst of MCC Basketball Environments
 MCC Popcorn Stands
At our invitation, Ed Hippensteel, dedicated Forester Fan and self-proclaimed popcorn critic, rated eight of the MCC popcorn stands as follows (the best is #1):

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. |
|
Grace College Indiana Wesleyan Goshen College Huntington College Taylor University University of St Francis Bethel College Marian College |
In case you didn’t notice, Spring Arbor isn’t listed. Ed says that his taste tests at Spring Arbor are too few to provide an accurate rating at this time.
We should also note that Huntington College got a new popcorn machine in the middle of the season (the old one blew up). Maybe Huntington will rate higher next year as a University with a new machine.
