Basketball Highlights

Adam has always been content to be a role player on a winning team, but there have been games in which his abilities have been obvious.  He scored 10 points or more in four games last season (high of 16 vs. Goshen) and 10 points or more in two games this season (had
11 vs. St Francis).

While he averaged just 3.8 points a game, Adam was efficient; he took just 2.9 shots per game.  He didn’t do it very often, but he could shoot.  He was perfect from three-point range in 11 games, and was perfect at the line in 10 games.

Adam provided at least one assist in 91% of the games in which he played
Adam 2-1
as a Forester, averaging 3.1 assists a game.  He had five or more assists in 19 games, and he had double-digit assists in six games.  After a season high of 11 assists vs. Spring Arbor, Adam said, “I’ll take 11 assists over 11 points any day.”  At the same time, he played 18 games without a single turnover and had more assists than turnovers in 85% of the games in which he played.  His two-year assist/turnover ratio of 2.40 puts him among the best at Huntington College.

Personal Achievements

Adam graduated fourth in his class at Westview High School and has been a regular member of the Dean’s List at Huntington College.  He was a two-time NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete and was the recipient of the “Champions of Character” award at the NAIA national tournament this year.

A native of northern Indiana near Topeka, and the son of Dean and Lynnette Bontreger, Adam has always been an outstanding student and he has some musical talent as well.  He sang with the Huntington College musical group “Preeminence” last year; plays the guitar and piano; and has sung the National Anthem before a home game each of the past two seasons.  His favorite class at Huntington: American Literature.

On Into the Future

Adam is currently student teaching at Huntington North High School and will get his degree in Secondary English education this spring.  He hopes to find a teaching position that will also allow him to coach basketball or soccer, one of his life-long ambitions.

Adam is a very dedicated young man, not only to sports, but in his spiritual pursuits as well.  It is his goal to not just to be a successful teacher and coach, but also to be successful in his walk with the Lord.  It is Adam’s hope that he will be able to convey his faith on a continuing basis through his day-to-day contact with students, sports camps and public speaking.
